Students first

My priority is putting students first in everything we do. Public education prepares students, both academically and socially, to become informed and engaged members of our community. I believe in putting studentsโ€™ needs first and will work tirelessly to ensure that every school in our district provides a safe, equitable, supportive, and rigorous learning environment for all students.

Stronger together

As a Norfolk community member, I believe that strong public schools are the foundation for a strong community. As a parent, I understand the impact Norfolk Public Schools has on our children's futures. Parents play a vital role in the success of schools and the academic achievement of students. As a school board member, I welcome open, transparent, and honest communication with parents and community members. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and community members to create the best possible future for all of our students.

High-quality education

I believe in the transformative potential of high-quality education to empower students. In my time serving on the Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education, I have consistently supported NPSโ€™s carefully crafted curriculum, dedicated educators, and effective techniques that equip students with the skills to thrive in today's complex world. I am committed to continue delivering an exceptional educational experience that prepares students for success in the classroom and beyond.

Trustworthy experience

Being a member of the school board has given me the opportunity to contribute to significant decisions that directly impact the education and well-being of students. Norfolk Board of Education members play a crucial role in establishing policies, setting budgets, and making decisions that affect curriculum, school facilities, and overall educational programs. It is a role that should not be taken lightly. My track-record shows I am committed to the responsible use of district resources and the accountability of school board members. I am proud of all we have accomplished while I have served on the school board:

  • Negotiated raises for teachers, while staying within the districtโ€™s budget

  • Expanded extracurricular activities, including sports and creative arts

  • Added the JAG (Jobs for Americaโ€™s Graduates) Program at Norfolk High School

  • Voted against the purchase of an over-budget activity bus and found a creative solution

  • And much more!

Meet Beth.

Beth is the right choice for NPS school board because she has the vision, experience, and commitment needed to lead our district to new heights.

Beth has a long history of volunteer and leadership experience, a commitment to education for herself and our community, an ability to see things from othersโ€™ perspectives, and the ability to analyze information and make fact-based decisions. Beth calls Norfolk home, but her family has lived in many different states while her husband, Mark, was serving in the military. As a military family, Beth has had the opportunity to participate in schools across the country including parochial, public, and Department of Defense environments. Beth is proud to bring her unique perspective to the Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education.

With Beth on the school board, we can be confident that our district will continue to improve and provide our students with the best education possible.

Primary election: Tuesday, May 14
General election: Tuesday, November 5

โ€œMany people think that school board elections donโ€™t matter, but the last couple of years have shown how untrue that is. National politics shouldnโ€™t play a role in our local education system. Itโ€™s important to elect people who share your views and values on education, and who have an interest in making sure Norfolk's public schools continue to provide the best possible educational experience for ALL students. โ€
